Neurorehabilitation

Speech pathologists support individuals with neurological conditions by helping improve their communication and swallowing abilities through targeted neurorehabilitation. Therapy addresses
voice, speech, and language difficulties caused by conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neuron disease, and stroke. These interventions aim to enhance independence, safety, and quality of life by enabling clearer communication and
safer swallowing.

Social and Life Skills

Speech pathologists help adults build social connections through functional activities like cooking classes, where they develop skills
such as negotiating, problem-solving, and decision-making in real-life situations. Therapy supports practising social skills in clinic and community settings, including visits to local shops and pubs. AASP hosts a variety of social events for adults, including footy tipping celebrations and quiz nights. We also host a variety of educational groups targeting safe social media use and helping adults use social communication safely online.

Feeding Difficulties

Speech pathologists help adults with dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) by assessing swallowing function and developing safe oral eating and drinking care plans. They provide education to staff and families, recommend diet modifications and appropriate feeding equipment, and assist with safe medication management. All interventions focus on maintaining safety and quality of life while supporting optimal nutrition and hydration.

Communication Skills

Speech pathologists help adults living with disabilities enhance their speech and language skills through creative, personalised, and functional approaches tailored to each individual’s needs. They incorporate both low and high-tech AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) tools to support effective communication. Collaboration with other allied health professionals ensures a holistic approach that maximises the individual’s communication potential and overall well-being.
